Bakens, Musquin, Jonass and co shine in World Run!
With more than 184.000 participants, the annual Wings for Life world run was once again an overwhelming success yesterday. Among them were also many motor sports enthusiasts who worked their asses off for a good cause. Motocross rider/coach Robin Bakens set a good example with a great distance of 30,59 km!
Due to other obligations - or not fitting in their training - there were fewer factory riders present. Yet this year many well-known names put on their running shoes again. Last year, both Jed Beaton and Thomas-Kjer Olsen and team manager Rasmus Jorgensen were present yesterday. Jens Hendrickx the honors went to Negaan Husqvarna MX. Jens even did 3,5 km better than last year and reached 28,08 km!
The young French beach racer Jeremy Hauquier achieved more than 24,36 km, but also French MX2 champion Anthony Bourdon (22,38 km), ex MX2 world champion Pauls jonass (22,25 km) and Liam Evert (18,65 km) achieved great performance. Red Bull KTM pilot Matthias Guadagnini came to 16,23 kilometers. KTM Motorsports Director Joel Smets could of course not be missing from his best friend's match Marc Herremans. Despite the wear and tear on body and limb, 'Smetske' squeezed out almost 9,5 kilometers.
After Lars Van Berkel's more than 40 kilometers in 2020 Robin Bakens (photo below) stood out among the specialists yesterday. The East Flemish Kawasaki pilot was on the road for 2 hours and 28 minutes for a total distance of 30,59 km. Undeniably impressive! Robin: “The run itself went quite well. Actually, I didn't really know what to expect from such a race against the 'catcher car'. Normally I run about twice a week and that is actually 10 to 12 kilometers. However, the catcher car did a good job of chasing me!”
To be honest, we found few well-known Dutch names in the results. Fortunately, the tough counts Sjoerd Schippers for two! The ex-Moto73 editor had set his sights on 24 kilometers, but still scored a very respectable distance with 21,13 kilometers.
For once, the spotlight in the Musquin family was not on Marvin. The two-time world champion supported his wife Mathilde yesterday. Mathilde Musquin delivered an absolute top performance this time and was a great tribute to the willpower of Michael Musquin, Brian Moreau and all other people with spinal cord injuries. Due to the hour difference and the joint start of the Wings For Life world run, Mathilde had to start at 4am. Ultimately she achieved a fantastic 25,30 km. Cheers! However, runner's legs apparently run in the family. Mathilde's brother Antoine Charrault it actually came to 39 kilometers!
Swedish wheelchair athlete Aron Anderson (66,85km) narrowly defeated Pole Dariusz Nożyński (66,20km). The Russian Nina Zarina was again the strongest among the women, she covered 60,16 km. One more notable MX result, the German WMX rider Janina Lehman fought his way to 17,52 km. Congratulations to all participants!
