No more DMofMX during the Zwarte Cross!
When the calendar came out for the 2021 KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross, it was immediately noticeable that the Zwarte Cross was not part of the championship. After editions in 2017-2018 and 2019, there was no follow-up in 2021. We contacted Alles Komt Goed B.V. who organizes the festival. Motocross and music lover Hendrik Jan Lovink comments here on MXMag.nl.
Hendrik Jan Lovink: “The big team bosses of course only have one focus and that is the final classification in the MX1 and the MXGP. This year we have seen again that sustaining injuries is the biggest risk factor for a good end result in the World Cup. The Dutch Masters of Motocross see the big teams as a training competition and want to avoid every possible risk. In that respect, I understand that our track is less suitable because we have high fences all around the track and the pace is very high. Some riders had complaints, but the vast majority were really impressed by the spectacle and the enormous number of enthusiastic visitors along the track. The ceremony in the Megatent with 2 people was also an unforgettable experience. No MXGP can match that! Look, every club that organizes a DMoMX or an MXGP is looking for “new” visitors, people who have never been to a motocross race before. That is good for the club and good for the sport, because we have to get (young) people enthusiastic about this wonderful sport. Otherwise there will always be the same group of visitors along the track, and in my opinion that is a missed opportunity. In our view, the Zwarte Cross is a perfect example of this. There are 10.000 people together (young and old), many of whom would never just buy a ticket for a cross competition. These people are now suddenly standing on the track and see the world's top flying by, they don't know what they see! That's the way to reach new people. We are in discussions with the KNMV to see if there is a possibility to add an ONK to our program, because we would like to continue to promote the sport and enjoy the competitions.”
