Will the first real electric crosser come from the Netherlands?
We have not yet been able to confirm the rumors that an electric dirt bike is being worked on in Belgium, but it seems that the Dutch will be first. The company Dohms Projecten B.V. is at an advanced stage of development. It even claims to have a prototype ready by the end of 2020.
Eighteen months ago, the idea arose from the knowledge that motocross with combustion engines was increasingly becoming a problem. The noise and emissions can push the sport even further into the depths and that is why they started this project. Dohms Projecten B.V. and Spike Technologies B.V. combined their knowledge to develop an electrically powered dirt bike.
And the fact that the bar is high is clearly underlined by the will to deliver a machine that can compete with the current 250 four-stroke engines. There is also a collaboration with Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. and the KNMV. The frame of the Yamaha YZ250f is used as a basis. The battery must be able to store enough power to run a decent series and it must be interchangeable so that you can quickly get back on the circuit. The battery is being developed by Spike while Dohms works on the drivetrain. We look forward with excitement to this very promising project.
