Dylan Walsh fills in for JM Honda Racing in MXGP
Twenty-two-year-old Dylan Walsh will now replace Julien Lieber at JM Honda Racing on Sunday. The reigning British MX2 champion has recently made the switch to MX1 on the Honda CRF450R.
Walsh, a British-born New Zealander is a versatile rider with experience in many different international championships from the MX2 World Championship to the EMX250 and the top American amateur SX competitions.
Before embarking on his global odyssey, Dylan won eight national titles in New Zealand. The spectacular pilot from Christchurch achieved two series victories and several podium finishes in the EMX2017 in 2018 and 250. In his first full World Championship MX2 season, Walsh scored an 8 last yearth place (Uddevalla, Sweden) and finished 5de in race two in Mantova.
Dylan immediately gave his calling card in his very first race on the 450, the opening round of the MX Nationals UK at Hawkstone Park. He led the second heat and finished 5thde in the final score. Walsh will also ride the final three rounds of the MX Nationals.
Dylan Walsh: "I am super excited about this great opportunity! I realize it is a big step, but I am motivated to work hard with the team. The intention is to every time to improve when I drive. I sit only a few more weeks on the Honda 450, but even by default it is one great engine that you easily get used to. None of this would be possible without it Matt Smith Racing' and 'Only Revo' that me -despite the short period in which everything came to fruition- allowed us to seize this opportunity with JM Honda Racing. There I am very grateful to them."
Jacky Martens, JM Honda Racing team manager: “We're really looking forward to it with Dylan on to get started. He has proven that before about pure speed has and would like to learn. Substituting for a rmore like Julien Lieber who is on his third MXGP season began, is a tough assignment. However, we have no expectations. We just want him as much experience as possible puts on and progress continues While testing on the JM Honda Racing engine Walsh was immediately at ease. A nice introduction due. I also want Matt Smith on this one (MSR Redline Honda) and Mark Yate (Only Revo) for their understanding and cooperation.”
