Birthday animal at great heights: Bavo Swijgers!
His photos travel around the world every year and we as lowlanders can be proud of that! After all, photographer Bavo Swijgers has been at the top as an MXGP photographer for several years. Normally he stands behind the camera, but from now on you will know what shotbyBavo himself looks like thanks to the photos above!
Bavo turns 41 today and has already come a long way as an action photographer. Even before his 'breakthrough' in the MXGP - with the accompanying award as photographer of the year in 2015 - he was active as editor-in-chief of MXlife and Freeze, freelancer for numerous magazines from Noppennieuws to the Winter Sports Guide and for years he brought snowboarders, skiers, skaters, BMX riders and other irregular scum are expertly depicted.
Before the emigre from Lommel became a VIP (Very important Photographer) of the MX factory stars, there was a time when he artistically captured pot-carrying nozems with planks on film. There were no rental cars in those days. Even more of worn-out breaks and vans with funky smells. Less of tight schedules and hyper professional managers. Oh well, you can't have everything, can you? Bavo has a nice, sweet girlfriend and is the father of four children, please. Congratulations Bavo and at least another 41 years, buddy!
Anyone who really wants to know what Swijgers' life was like before motorsport stardom can check out this road trip video from the Quicksilver snowboard team. To Slovenia, Tim Gajser would be happy! But uh, what was a road trip again? 😂
