Jeffrey Herlings wins second series and the GP!
What was expected has also come true. Herlings put the finishing touches in the second series and was able to win the heat. He also won the GP in Valkenswaard with an equal points total with Tim Gajser. The GP was held in very wet conditions, resulting in a circuit with deep ruts.
Herlings had a clean start as he took the holeshot ahead of Gajser and Tony Cairoli. Arminas Jasikonis was back on track and passed fourth in the first corner. A number of top competitors had a bad start, including Seewer, Coldenhoff, Prado, Desalle and Paturel. The pace was very high at the front, meaning that only Gajser could stay in the wake of The Bullet.
The lead went up and down, but the Slovenian lost the rhythm halfway through the race, allowing Herlings' lead to grow. The best recovery was recorded by Clément Desalle who bravely fought back from a lost position to eighth place. With two laps to go, Tim Gajser made a spectacular exit on an increasingly difficult track and then secured second place. Herlings won the series and the GP ahead of Gajser and a reborn Arminas Jasikonis. The latter was able to achieve a second podium in the MXGP class.
In the World Cup standings, Herlings remains in the lead with nine points ahead of Gajser. The next race is in Argentina in two weeks.
