Brenda Wagemans extends IMBA title
Brenda Wagemans extended her European Championship (IMBA) title in the women's class last weekend in Amriswil, Switzerland. Before the match, the Belgian had a lead of 19 points over the Dutch Britt Jans-Beken. After a battle with the Swiss Sandra Keller, Wagemans managed to win the first two heats. Jans-Beken took third place twice in these heats, increasing the lead to 39 points. With third place in the third round, Wagemans achieved more than enough points to be honored as European champion. Jans-Beken took second place in the third round and ended the IMBA season in second place overall. This makes her the best 125cc 2-stroke rider of the season.
The battle for the last place on the podium in the general classification was between the Dutch Amber Simons and Cynthia Swets. After Simons fell in the first heat, this was quickly decided. Simons was injured and did not play again for the rest of the day. With a seventh, eighth and sixth place in the heats, Swets achieved third place in the final standings. In the daily rankings the victory also went to Wagemans. She was accompanied on the podium by Keller and Jans-Beken. The country classification resulted in a victory for the Netherlands. Belgium took second place ahead of Great Britain.
