Everything you need to know about the Keiheuvel MX!
Traditionally, KMC Mol organizes the International Motorcross of Keiheuvel on August 15, now Thursday. That is not new, but this year you can certainly speak of a breath of fresh air! KMC Mol had a real change of management internally, the circulation was extensively modernized and the club opened a can of great pilots to give this Kempen monument a new impetus.
The new style Belgian Masters of Motocross was put on hold for a year, but that shouldn't spoil the fun. After all, next Thursday the Flanders Masters title will be fought for, which will be distributed on the basis of the Superfinal.
In the Superfinal, the 18 best Inters/Nationals 250cc compete against the 18 best Inters/Nationals 500cc. In addition, the organization has 4 wildcards on hand to recruit riders who had bad luck during the day.
500cc: Who will succeed Glenn Coldenhoff?
A remarkable observation for those who cross the field of participants: many former winners are returning to Balen again this year. Among them is in-form Glenn Coldenhoff and we are preparing for the arrival of Jeffrey Herlings (photo below). In the meantime, we also know that 'the Bullet' cannot yet race the way he wants on the Keiheuvel. Jeffrey will not start in the heats, but he will make an appearance tomorrow and he will also provide a special autograph session!
The Hoff can also expect response from Shaun Simpson who can always do just that little bit more in the sand of the Keiheuvel.
Kevin Strijbos (photo below) won the Swedish championship round of Arsunda this weekend and the JWR Yamaha rider also has a very strong record on August 15! Strijbos has already won the Sylvain Geboers trophy three times and has been on the podium five times. We are also allowed to be club pilots Jens Getteman, Nathan Watson en Jeffrey Dewulf count among the podium candidates. Although for the latter we will have to wait and see how he digested the 12 hours of La Chinelle! Yentel Martens, the number three of Keiheuvel last year, will have to miss the match. He came Yesterday I had a serious fall during training and broke two vertebrae.
Still clean people are expected in the form of Kevin Fors, also a La Chinelle star and two-time world champion Steve Ramon, crowd favorite Ken Dycker, Petar Petrov and outsider Lars Van Berkel . It will also be equally interesting to see how the local (VLM) heroes fare. Jens Van Meer, Mike Vanderstraeten, Bryan Engelen en Bram Valckx After all, they are all hunting for their top performance of the year in a GP-worthy starting field. In the last resort the Venezuelan Anthony Rodriguez (Hutten Metaal Yamaha) and the Finnish powerhouse Harry Kullas added to the 500cc field.
Jago Geerts in his backyard!
Balenaar Jago Geerts will compete against tough competitors on the Keiheuvel. Jago will certainly go for a win, but the opposition is also quite tough in MX2 with his teammate Ben watson on top!
Other top performers include: Brent Van Doninck, Calvin Vlaanderen, Dylan Walsh, the EMX250 toppers Kevin Horgmo en Raivo Dankers, strong northern neighbors such as Mark Boot, Kay Ebben, Rene De Jong, Lars Greek Spoor and here too, as usual, a long list of ambitious 'regional drivers' of headlight hero Andy Truyts (Beta!) about the strong Dieter Vromans, Greg Smets, to the brothers Arno and Jordi Van Mieghem, Brent Arden, Wannes Van de Voorde and the ex EMX150 champion Jack Bintcliffe.
Or what about the surprising ones Cyril Enjoyment? After his excellent Lommel, we would not be surprised if the Husqvarna rider reached the quarter-liter podium. In short, with so much quality in both classes, it will be a fight to reach the Super Final.
And in that Super Final anything is possible. Who knows, maybe Jago will set the Kei ablaze in a direct duel with the 500cc toppers?
Fascinating side program
The full field of participants is already heading towards 280, it would take us too far to go through every category, but for those who want to discover the stars of tomorrow, KMC Mol also has two fascinating classes on offer. Both the combined 65cc/85cc series and the 125cc with Liam Everts, Kay De Wolf are in action.
