Jorge Prado wins MX2 Grand Prix in Lommel!
Spaniard Jorge Prado Garcia has just won the MX2 Grand Prix of Belgium, held in Lommel. The KTM pilot easily managed both heats and outclassed friend and foe in the deep Limburg sand.
The only pilot who could give the impression of acting at the same level as Jorge Prado was our Jago Geerts. Only the KEMEA Yamaha pilot lost the victory both times at the start. In the first series the Yamaha pilot crashed, after an impressive catch-up race the youngster finished second!! In the second series the Yamaha pilot started around eight to tenth place and that is too far when Jorge Prado, as usual, claims the holeshot. Once all competitors had rolled up and arrived back in second place, the bird had started flying again... On the way to a good second place and with three laps to go, disaster struck again. Jago Geerts' Yamaha failed and in a few weeks Jago lost both the “Dutch Masters of Motocross” title and a nice podium in his home Grand Prix due to technical problems. In addition, both team and pilot should urgently consider how the problem of takeoffs can be solved. Because this remains an Achilles heel.
This meant that it was not Jago Geerts, but Calvin Vlaanderen with a seventh and second place and Ben Watson with a fifth and third place that ultimately ended up on the podium.
You already know how things turned out with Calvin Vlaanderen and Jago Geerts, but how did the other lowlanders do?! Cyril Genot, a real sand bunny and who now arrived at Tanel Leok's team with good material, managed to get himself into the top ten everywhere and even finished seventh everywhere! With an eleventh place in the first series and a ninth place in the second series, Cyril Genot clearly shows himself as a possible reserve for the MXON team. Jago Geerts ultimately finished tenth overall with his twenty-two points from the first round. Marcel Conijn scored two points in this Grand Prix, good for twenty-third place overall, and that is strong in this very competitive class. Lars Greekpoor claimed twenty-fifth overall with one point. The other lowlanders; Unfortunately, Koen Gouwenberg and Joel Van Mechelen did not score any points.
