Clément Desalle renews his contract with KRT
The Belgian GP is one of the 'home GPs' for the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team and last weekend both Clément Desalle and Julien Lieber visited the team in Lommel.
Both riders are currently recovering from their injuries and have had the opportunity to meet team members and guests over two days alongside Tommy Searle. Unfortunately, the British rider had to withdraw from the race after the first training session because his right hand, which was injured a week earlier in the Czech Republic, was too painful.
“I have never had any doubts about my future. I know where I want to go, I know what to expect and for me there was no reason to stop my career after my injury! I feel good when I play different sports and I still have enormous motivation. I know that even if the level of my competitors is very high, I can fight for victory, and when I am behind the starting gate my goal is always to win. And I have a great feeling with the team. You need a good team and a good bike to win, and I have all this at KRT where they offer me great working conditions,” explained Clément, who already started a new phase in his recovery program a few weeks ago.
“My doctor gave me the green light to ride my bike on the asphalt, and in a few weeks I will be back on my mountain bike, then on my enduro bike and finally on my dirt bike. After my knee injury earlier this season the goal was to get back to racing as soon as possible, but after this injury in Russia I knew it would take quite a long time because I couldn't do any activities for several weeks. The goal has always been to take the necessary time to get back 100%, so I have not set a specific date for my comeback,” added Clément.
“Of course it is difficult to watch the races on television, because you want to be in action on your motorcycle. We are used to a very intense life, we produce a lot of adrenaline at every race and I miss that so much!” he concluded at the end of a weekend in which he enjoyed spending time with his second “family”.
Thierry Chizat Suzzoni (KRT team owner): “It is great news for us to have Clément in the team for a fifth season and we are very happy to continue working with him. He knows our team members and our bike perfectly and we appreciate both the man and the rider. This season has been disrupted by injuries, including the last one in Russia, but his motivation remains the same and we will do our best to give him every opportunity to achieve many more victories together with KRT.”
Steve Guttridge (KME Race Manager): “Clement fits in with the team, their working methods and goals so his feedback on his bike's performance at MXGP level is very important. His performances this season when fit were again world class so we are very pleased that he will remain with Kawasaki next season.”
