Erik Willems and Mark Boot divide loot in France
On National Day in France, motocross fans traditionally head to the Le Quesnoy castle circuit. The Belgians have been calling the shots in this championship for the entire season and once again it was bingo in various categories!
In the 85 cc class, Hugo Stiennes put things in order as he won the youth class ahead of Belgian champion Noah Deboutez and Enzo Franzoni. We almost had an entirely Belgian podium, but Bryan Maes was put aside ice hockey-wise by Franzoni in the very last corner.
In the 125 cc class there was no problem with Meor rider Avo Tack who managed to win both series. Maxime Lurkin and Wouter Dormont are also in the top ten, while a fall cost Emiel Soens many places when he seemed to be on his way to sixth place.
In the MX2 class, all eyes were on European Championship rider Jeremy Haucquier, who also won the first series convincingly. In the final series, however, the KTM rider was beaten by Matteo Puffet (photo above), who even took the overall victory ahead of a surprised Haucquier. Yann Meulemeester was the second Belgian in eighth place.
The MX1 class brought pure spectacle to Le Quesnoy. Only thousands of spectators could enjoy a fantastic duel between Jeremy Coen, Erik Willems and Mark Boot. It was Boot who won the first series ahead of Coen and Willems who finished third after a fall at the start. In the final series, Mark Boot now had to chase while Erik Willems took the holeshot. Willems rode away from the opposition, but Mark Boot gave the fans a great day by finishing second ahead of Jeremy Coen and classification leader Sabry Ghembala.
Finally, the Super Final brought the match everyone was waiting for. Mark Boot and Erik Willems attacked each other in such a way that they pulled away by almost a minute from Jeremy Coen, who was in third place. The victory in a hard-fought super final went to Erik Willems, who saw brandmate Mark Boot finish second. The final race of the Northern French championship will be held in September in Conde Sur Escaut.
