Cooper Webb shows he can do it in the AMA 450 Outdoors too!
Today, in difficult conditions, Cooper Webb showed that he can also win outdoor competitions or motocross competitions in the 450 class! The reigning supercross champion managed to put on a great race in the first moto, held in muddy conditions. The KTM pilot defeated Eli Tomac with a lead of more than ten seconds, with or without some help from doubled…
Also in this first heat we saw embarrassing results from Jason Anderson, Ken Roczen, Dean Wilson and other Blake Baggetts. This first heat, in contrast to the second heat, was actually held on a real mud course and that clearly caused these boys problems. It also gave privateer pilots such as Henry Miller and John Short the opportunity to show themselves to the general public!
In the second round we saw how the winner of the first round; Cooper Webb battled his rival Ken Roczen! On a clearly drier course, both fought fiercely. Initially, Cooper Webb had to recognize his superior in the German HRC pilot due to a mistake and associated crash.
Ken Roczen then also took a nice lead, and it seemed to be a "cat in the bag" for the Honda pilot. However, that was beyond the determination of Cooper Webb. While Ken Roczen was no longer able to dip below 2 minutes 13 sec lap times in the second half of the race, Cooper Webb was still able to do this on a regular basis. As a result, the Red Bull KTM pilot regularly cut back a bit and was able to take the lead two laps from the end. Ken Roczen took a deep breath and gave everything to claim victory in this second series, but ended up with just .343 of a second.
The big triumphant of the day was Cooper Webb, who won his first AMA 450 Outdoor National of his career with this double series victory! This goes to Zach Osborne who quietly scored a second place overall with a fourth and third place, and to Eli Tomac who, in addition to his second place from the first heat, finished fifth in the second heat. The two other big heroes of this weekend are without a doubt Henry Miller and John Short, because not only did both score well in the first heat, they also repeated this in the second heat on the cloud of euphoria. With a sixth and eighth place we find John Short in seventh place overall, and we see Henry Miller back in ninth place, deservedly with a fifth and fourteenth place! With these great results, they leave many boys behind on shiny factory equipment!
