Third victory in a row for Mathias Van Hoof!
Beta pilot Mathias Van Hoof has won the 5th race for the Belgian Enduro Championship at the Inters. After winning in the wet Rocroi and the week before in the tough tests in Epernay, the young Herentals resident wrote last weekend again the BK enduro competition in Saint Hubert in his name!
With this victory, Van Hoof scored a real hat trick and further extended his lead in the championship.
While the competitions in Epernay and Rocroi were mainly held on wet meadows and the typical French slopes, a completely different competition was on the program in Saint Hubert. By analogy with the World Championship in 2015, which was also held there in the south of Belgium, 3 beautiful tests were again on the program: a very technical extreme test on and around a quarry, and 2 specials in line, in and around the forests of the small village in the Ardennes. These tests were very technical, with climbing and descending, varied and difficult. A real Enduro, with 4 long laps and more than 7 hours of riding time, so worthy of a World Championship where the wheat was separated from the chaff!
From the start, Van Hoof went for the full win. He immediately put his 350 BETA to the test and was immediately at the top. Together with colleague Warengehien, they briefly exchanged places, but from test 3 Van Hoof took over command and expanded his lead. Despite the sultry air and high temperatures of around 30 degrees, the Kempen native did not give an inch and did not relinquish the lead.
“It was quite tough and very technical. These difficult, tough tests suit me very well,” he said afterwards. But also in the very wet Epernay and Rocroi, the Beta rider managed to stay ahead of his competitors on the sometimes slippery grass or on the wet slopes. “Yes, I didn't expect this, a completely different course, very different conditions, very technical, but I was always the faster of all the Inters. Even with the Prestige class I would have finished 4th scratch. This competition also counted for the ONK and therefore all Dutch top players were present. I was the fastest in 6 of the 9 tests and ahead of all (usually) faster Dutch people. Unbelievable, I am very happy that I am in the lead in the championship with a 19 point lead. But the season is still long, until October and I will keep fighting for every point.” said the very happy Van Hoof.
