Full score Mike van Grinsven after three games.
After the triptych in Lierop, Lochem and Varsseveld, Mike van Grinsven has the full score of 125 points at the ONK Quads Masters. In Varsseveld he again achieved both heat victories and the associated day victory after a battle with Joe Maessen. Behind this duo, third place went to Ricardo Phoelich (photo). The Wijchen native did this with two third place finishes in the heats. Koen Jansen took fourth place in the daily rankings with two fifth place finishes. Sixth and eighth places in the heats were enough for Johan Gommans to end the day in fifth place.
First heat
The holeshot went to Maessen, with Grinsven, Rick Haverdil, Marc de Vries and Davy de Cuyper right behind him. Due to a small steering error from Maessen, the lead soon passed to van Grinsven and De Cuyper dropped out of the top five. In the second lap, de Cuyper recovered and, like de Vries, he passed Haverdil. On the third lap Phoelich also passed Haverdil and in the following laps Phoelich continued his advance and finished third. Van Grinsven and Maessen had now built up a lead over the rest of the field and Van Grinsven started to pull away from Maessen. Behind this trio there was a nice battle for fourth place between de Vries, de Cuyper, Jan Vlaeymans, Haverdil and Gommans. De Cuyper was the first to abandon the battle halfway through the heat and dropped out. Jansen also entered the battle for the sub-top places a little later. De Cuyper passed de Vries, but he also had to give up the fight in the last lap and dropped out. It was de Vries who won this battle. Koen Jansen eventually crossed the finish line in fifth place after catching up from fourteenth place
Second heat
Once again it was Maessen who was the fastest ahead of van Grinsven, Phoelich, de Cuyper and Ruben van Lith. Maessen and van Grinsven quickly took a small lead over Phoelich. On the fifth lap it was Jansen who passed van Lith and finished fifth. Maessen and van Grinsven were again in a class of their own and quickly moved further away from Phoelich. Once among the stragglers, it was Van Grinsven who distanced himself from Maessen and managed to finish first. Second place again went to Maessen and best of the rest was again Phoelich. Jansen managed to catch up with De Cuyper, but De Cuyper stayed ahead of him and finished fourth. Jansen in turn managed to keep Lith behind him.
In the standings of the ONK Quads Masters, Van Grinsven now has a 27 point lead over Phoelich. Maessen follows in third place. Behind this trio, Jansen and de Vries are currently competing for fourth place. They are followed by a group of riders, led by Gommans, who are fighting for a place in the top ten.
