EnduroGP: Steve Holcombe unbeatable in Dahlen!
The EnduroGP season was kicked off in Dahlen, Germany. Four very varied tests were set out through forests and meadows. There were also several “mudaten” in the connection where many spectators had taken a seat to watch the GP toppers. Reigning world champion Steve Holcome started his World Cup campaign without a fault.
With a total of more than 18.000 spectators over 3 days and 155 participants, this first competition of the new year was a bull's eye. The addition of the new open class was also a success with no fewer than 46 participants divided over 3 categories.
On Saturday Steve HOLCOMBE was the first to start. He was allowed to open the specials and this was not the easiest task. The 2018 EnduroGP champion was immediately in the rhythm. His weekend was a succession of better times. He won no fewer than 10 of the 18 specials over the 2 days. Only Davide GUARNERI, Brad FREEMAN and Danny MCCANNEY managed to steal some specials from the Beta Factory rider. Despite the accumulated fatigue, HOLCOMBE shows perfect control. The season has just started and HOLCOMBE already seems to be at the top of his level.
Brad FREEMAN took the podium again on Saturday and Sunday, confirming the dominance of the British community. On Sunday, the Beta Boano pilot launched his offensive against MCCANNEY just after noon. FREEMAN could be satisfied with his performance. He managed to limit the damage to HOLCOMBE, finishing second at 43 seconds.
Danny MCCANNEY (GBR-TM) finished third, just like on Saturday, for his debut at TM Factory. The Briton had been unable to resist FREEMAN's comeback, but he remained focused to maintain third place.
Eero REMES, who dropped out on Saturday, left on Sunday with a knife between his teeth. The Yamaha rider was fighting hard all day in the top 5. He finished fourth. Alex SALVINI fought all day with REMES and LARRIEU for the Top 5. SALVINI ended this 2nd day feeling a bit reassured. He said he was confident about the next round of the Enduro GP in Portugal.
