Nancy Van de Ven starts title hunt in front of her own audience
Nancy van de Ven (21) from Zeeland has been a leading actress in the WMX, the women's motocross world championship, for many years. Prior to last year's second-place finish, she finished fourth (2017), second (2016), third (2015) and fifth (2014 and 2013). This weekend her title hunt will start at the Eurocircuit in Valkenswaard!
Last season, the difference between Van de Ven and six-time title holder Kiara Fontanesi was only eight points. The 24-year-old Fontanesi, like Nancy, competes on Yamaha. Due to health issues However, the title defender will not be in action in Valkenswaard! A big blow for the experienced Italian, because the women's championship only consists of five matches. Then you can't afford a single miss. Nancy van de Ven is clear what her goal is this year: “My ambition is to become women's world champion.”
In 2018, New Zealand's Courtney Duncan seemed to be on her way to the world title, but she had to miss the last two GPs due to injuries, causing her to drop to fourth place behind Fontanesi, Van de Ven and the German Larissa Papenmeier.
In the field of more than forty participants, the Dutch ladies take a prominent place, because in addition to Van de Ven, ten more Dutch ladies will be at the start. Among them Shana van der Vlist and Lynn Valk, who finished the previous competition in seventh and eleventh respectively. The final of the WMX Championship is scheduled for September 7 and 8 in Turkey.
All eyes on the Belgian side are focused on this Amandine Verstappen. Amandine has had a good winter and has shown in the past two weeks that she is in good shape. In the first two games of the French women's championship, Verstappen took victory in both series. Last year she finished sixth in the final standings. In addition to Verstappen, Brenda Wagemans and Britt Van Muylem will also be in action this weekend.
