Team Netherlands ready to rock!
After second places over the past two years, Team Netherlands is facing a potentially historic weekend in RedBud. Fueled by Jeffrey Herlings (MXGP), the Dutch team is also ignited with the winning spirit. Although the possible Herlings-Tomac duel demands the most attention, a strong Team Holland is perhaps the main challenger for the American home riders...
We don't have a crystal ball, but the Herlings-Coldenhoff-Vlaanderen trio is without a doubt the biggest European contender to succeed France. After all, the French have won the last four MXoN events. In the 70-year history of the MX of Nations, the Netherlands has been on the podium 12 times, but never on the highest step. During today's press conference in RedBud, the Dutch team made a very eager impression.
Brand new Team NL manager Patrice Assendelft (KNMV Director): “The atmosphere in the team is great, both the organization and the reception here are excellent. We are really looking forward to this weekend!”
The hype around Jeffrey herlings is palpably present, especially after his fantastic 2018 season - and the demonstration he gave in Ironman last year. 'the Bullet' remains calm despite all the commotion. “Of course it would be fantastic as a team to win here. We will have to wait and see what the individual competition yields, but I am of course aiming for a strong result. The weather is a bit of a gamble this weekend, for the match itself it would be a shame if it is not dry. I will of course do my best individually, but I also want to fulfill my duty for the team. I have the feeling that we are a very strong team anyway. We just have to keep our heads up whatever the circumstances, then I know that a lot is possible!”
Calvin Flanders: “This is my very first MX of Nations! So it will certainly be interesting this year. I have had a good season with 5 podiums and a GP victory. This also made the season much better than what I expected. I actually come here in top form and that makes it even more special that I have been selected for the Dutch team.”
Glenn Coldenhoff: “We have already been very close to victory in Maggiora. But then expectations were different because we were already happy with second place. Everything is different now, so we're going for the win! The atmosphere is very good in the team, we have also trained together and we form a close group.”
Because the MXoN will take place in the Netherlands (Assen) next year for the first time in 15 years, Team NL has a unique opportunity. With a victory in the US, the Dutch would enter the TT Circuit in Assen as defending champions!
