“What the Rijksmuseum is for art lovers, the Eurocircuit is for cross enthusiasts. The Dakar Pre-prologue attracts around twenty-five thousand car and motorsport fanatics to the circuit in Valkenswaard every autumn, and the GP Motorcross also ensures a crowd of people towards the famous site on the Victoriedijk every spring. However, the question remains whether such events with these visitor numbers will still be allowed to take place next year.
The highest administrative court of our country ruled on Wednesday that the Pre-prologue, as it has been held in recent years, does not fit within the existing rules for the site. The municipality must now reconsider what is and what is not allowed. In any case, events such as the Dakar Pre-prologue appear to be no longer possible or will have to be significantly adjusted in size. The ruling is an enormous boost for a number of local residents and interest group Groen en Heem, who have been waging a legal battle against the municipality of Valkenswaard for years.
