Covington just missed the podium in Switzerland
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Thomas Covington missed the podium by 1 point during the sixteenth round of the MX2 World Championship in Frauenfeld, Switzerland. After a strong third place in the first moto, Covington did not get further than a sixth place in the second moto after a bad start, which put him fourth in the day's results.
Thomas continued his upward trend from the second part of the season in Switzerland. In the first heat he quickly took fourth place. In the second part of the race he made an important overtaking maneuver and crossed the finish line in third place. In the second moto he did not get a good start and had to catch up. Giving everything, he came back to sixth place, but just missed the podium.
Thomas Kjer Olsen had to go deep in the first moto due to a fall on the first lap. Olsen came back from the back to tenth place, but took revenge in the second moto by finishing fifth. With these results he finished in seventh place in the daily rankings and remains in third place in the standings.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing now travels to Bulgaria where the seventeenth round of the world championship will be held at the Sevlievo circuit next weekend.
Thomas Covington comments: “My riding was good all weekend and I'm happy with that. I had good speed and did my best to get good results. On a track like this it's hard to make a difference. In both motos I had a hard time at the start and that is really an area that needs to be worked on. With better starts we would certainly have been on the podium again. We are getting closer to the end of the season and I feel stronger and stronger. I look forward to the next two Grand Prix's in Bulgaria and Turkey.”
Commentary Thomas Kjer Olsen: “This was not the best weekend for me. In the first moto I crashed on the first lap and had to come back from the back. We made a number of changes between the heats and this worked out better in the second heat. Even though I didn't get the best start, I still managed to finish fifth. All in all, I am satisfied with my seventh place in the daily rankings and I am looking forward to the next two Grand Prix's. I think the Sevlievo circuit is really fantastic and I hope I can compete for good results there.”
