Thomas Covington takes third GP podium in a row!
With a start to finish victory in the first moto of the Indonesian Grand Prix and a fourth place in the second moto, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Thomas Covington has kept his podium streak alive. With a second place overall, Covington took his third consecutive podium place in a Grand Prix. In the first moto he took the holeshot and won the race convincingly. In the second moto he had to work harder after a bad start and fought back to fourth place.
Due to heavy rainfall in the days leading up to the event, the circuit was wet and muddy during qualifying on Saturday. Fortunately, conditions were better on Sunday when both heats were scheduled. After qualifying fourth on Saturday, Covington was hungry for Sunday's motos.
In the first moto, Covington used all the power of his Husqvarna FC250 and entered the first corner as the leader. He ran away from his pursuers with a good rhythm and was in the lead from start to finish. For the second heat he had set his sights on overall victory, but due to a bad start he had to come back through the field and managed to finish fourth.
Thomas Kjer Olsen took a strong third place in the qualifying heat on Saturday, but unfortunately he could not get into his rhythm in the heats on Sunday. As a result, Olsen did not get further than fifth and ninth place in the heats, but remains in third place in the championship.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing will now remain in Indonesia as they compete in another world championship race here next weekend.
Commentary Thomas Covington: ''Everything went perfectly in the first heat. I took the holeshot and then rode my own race. In the second moto I didn't get a good start and had to go deep to get back to the front. We once again showed that overall victory was within reach, but I am disappointed that I have now finished second in the daily rankings for the third time in a row. I'm very happy with where I am now in terms of speed but I have to work on the second moto. I can't thank the team enough for everything they do for me and I look forward to the next Grand Prix here in Indonesia."
Commentary Thomas Kjer Olsen: “My starts were good in both heats and I was able to ride well with the leaders. The speed was perfect but I crashed in both motos which made it much more difficult. I had a hard time getting a good pace after the crashes and that made it a lot more difficult. I had hoped for more before we started this Grand Prix but I'm glad I'm still in one piece. My eyes are already focused on the next Grand Prix here in Indonesia.”
