Robin Bakens surprises at BK in Hasselt
Perhaps Robin Bakens' surprise was less great for the attentive spectator. In the morning, the East Flemish rider had convincingly achieved pole position and in the first series you had returned excellently after a bad start. In the final, Bakens defeated 250cc winner Mark Boot.
Due to the cancellation in Burst, no MCLB this weekend, but it was not a real surprise at the Inters classes in Hasselt. Guest driver David Segers made positive comments. Encouraged by the family's new addition, dog Rocks, David took the final podium (1-3) ahead of Roy Sillien (3-2).
BK leader Dietger Damiaens was not having his day. In the first moto he came all the way from the back to 8th place overall, 4th in the 500cc. Dietger had a better start in the restart, but he had to settle for fifth place. DD64 remains firmly in the saddle with regard to his position in the Belgian championship. The reigning champion now has a 37-point lead over Roy Sillien.
Man in form Mark Boot held off Erik Willems and Daymond Martens in the quarters. As a result, Boot further extends its lead over Martens. Tom Schepmans (500) and Tallon Verhelst were the winners respectively at the Nationals.
