Black cat chases Jumbo No Fear Vamo Honda
You would almost become superstitious or suspect that black magic is involved. In any case, the 11th GP of the season was a huge setback for Micha-Boy De Waal and Marshal Weltin. Plagued by bad luck, both riders returned from Italy without points.
After his back injury that he sustained during the British GP, Micha-Boy De Waal was back at the event in Ottobiano, Italy. The course in Lombardia can certainly be called atypically Italian due to the sandy surface. In theory, however, this was a job where De Waal could certainly perform well. In Kegums last month, the popular Dutchman raced to an impressive 11th place in the second heat.
Micha also felt good in Ottobiano and that translated into a decent 18th place during the qualifying race on Saturday. Teammate Weltin finished 22nd. After his good start the day before, De Waal also took off like an arrow from a bow in the first moto. The Jumbo No Fear Vamo Honda was on the outside just outside the top 10 in the first corner when it came into contact with another rider. Finally, the driver from Veen fought back to 20th place when he had to abandon the race due to a mechanical problem. Unfortunately, due to a very exceptional electrical problem, Micha was unable to start in the second heat. In both heats, Marshal also suffered a technical failure after about 20 minutes. Especially after the second series, the disappointment was enormous considering the nice 16th place that the sympathetic American occupied at that moment.
The Zwarte Cross in Lichtenvoorde, also the final of the Dutch Masters of Motocross, on July 14 and 15 will be the next big appointment for Micha and Marshal.
Micha-Boy De Waal: “On Saturday I certainly had a good feeling and the start also went better. It was very hard that we had to deal with two bad lucks. Both myself and the team expected much more from this match. It was a weekend full of bad luck, on a track where we could certainly have shown something beautiful.”
Marshal Weltin: “It was a bit of a search for the right setting, but fortunately for me the circuit was not too difficult, at least on Saturday. We made some changes to the suspension for Sunday and that worked out well. I felt good and then of course it is twice as hard to have to give up with a technical problem. The next GP is the Czech GP in Loket where it went very well last year, so I am really looking forward to it now.”
