MX2: Pauls Jonass wins his fifth of the season.
It was on Saturday Jorge Prado Garcia the best but when the points were really divided it stood Pauls jonass on. The Latvian wins both heats on the circuit of Matterley Basin. It is the fifth GP victory of this season for the KTM rider who now has a 28 point lead over Prado. Calvin Flanders is allowed to climb back onto the podium, the Honda rider finishes third and rises to fifth place in the standings. The best Lowlander is Iago Geerts, the Yamaha rider is eleventh Davy Pootjes en Brent Vandoninck (16th). Unfortunately, there are no points for Micha Boy de Waal this weekend.
From pole position, Prado-Garcia makes the best start, but in the second corner he makes a small mistake. Jonass of course immediately makes his move with the 'Redplate' and takes over the lead. Ruben Fernandez-Garcia follows in third place ahead of the JM Racing duo Covington and Thomas Kjer Olsen. Fernandez managed to hold on to third place for the first half of the race, but after Covington took over third place, the F&H Racing driver lost places. The battle for third place will then be between Covington and Kjer Olsen. The Dane seems to decide this in his favor, but the American starts a nice final sprint. It promises to be an exciting final for Jacky Martens' crosser, but then Kjer Olsen falls silent. He disappears from the race and gives fourth place to Calvin Vlaanderen. The top five is completed by Marshall Weltin. The American had little success this year, but the JUMBO-NoFearEnergy-VAMO Team has made great strides with the CR250F. Weltin rode a great race and finished fifth, much to the delight of the Belgian team! Vandoninck becomes the best Laaglander, the Husqvarna rider finishes fifteenth ahead of fellow countryman Jago Geerts. Davy Pootjes scores three points, the LRT KTM rider crosses the finish line in eighteenth.
Prado also takes the best start in the second round ahead of Henry Jacobi and Jonass. The leader in the standings quickly manages to connect with the leader, who then seems to distance himself. However, Jonass comes back in the second half of the match and takes the lead with more than ten minutes to go. The Spaniard tries to respond but cannot make a fist against the championship leader. The South African crosses the finish line in third place, but he still has to shift up in the final phase to stay ahead of Ben Watson. The KEMEA driver can still climb onto the podium if he finishes third, but Flanders manages to prevent that. Jacobi finished fifth after a battle with Kjer Olsen. Just like the first moto, the former EMX250 champion does not finish. Geerts finished seventh, followed by Pootjes. Vandoninck manages to score three points when he crosses the finish line in 18th, while De Waal is left empty-handed when he finishes in 21st.
The FIM MX2 World Championship continues next week with the French Grand Prix. This will be held on the Saint Jean d'Angely circuit
