First EMX250 podium Roan van de Moosdijk
Roan van de Moosdijk of the ASTES4-TESAR Yamaha team has achieved his first podium finish in the EMX250 Championship. In St. Jean d'Angely, France, the rider from Eindhoven rode two good heats, finishing third and ninth in the overall standings.
After all the setbacks in England a week earlier, Van de Moosdijk was keen to show something good in France. He immediately found his feet on the hilly circuit on Saturday and managed to set fast times. This ensured that he set the fastest time in his group in training, which gave him confidence for the first heat.
Because the Roan heat was held at the very end of the day, the track was strewn with deep ruts when the starting gate folded down. Roan got a good start and immediately took fourth place. With a good rhythm he managed to gain one place during the race and finished the heat in a good third place.
The second heat was held on Sunday morning, but the conditions were very different then. Due to heavy thunderstorms the track was very muddy when the riders started in the second heat. Roan did not get off to a good start and had to get back to the front from around fifteenth place. Lurking for gaps where he could pass the riders in front of him, he came to the front. In the final phase he had managed to work his way up to eleventh place, but Van de Moosdijk continued to keep the pressure on the riders in front of him and managed to pass two more riders on the last lap, resulting in him crossing the finish line in ninth place.
With a 3-9 in the heats, he finished in third place in the daily rankings and is now tenth in the standings for the European Championship. The championship continues next weekend in Ottobiano, Italy.
