Coldenhoff scores a strong sixth place in Matterley Basin.
Glenn Coldenhoff of the Red Bull KTM Factory team scored high in the ninth round of the MXGP World Championship in the British Matterley Basin. In both the first and second heats, the rider from Heesch crossed the finish line in sixth place and also finished in sixth place in the Grand Prix.
On Saturday there was a good constructive trend in Glenn's riding. "In free practice I had a hard time on the track but after we changed the bike setup I started to feel good on the track. In the qualifying heat I got a good start and then rode in second place for a long time. I eventually finished third and since it was a 1,2,3 for KTM, we could look back on the qualifying day with great satisfaction," says Glenn.
Glenn started Sunday with confidence, but because they had made the track very wet before the start of the first heat, Glenn had a hard time. He was passed several times but from the middle of the race things started to go well, but at that point everyone was driving almost the same speed. Still, Coldenhoff ended the heat on a positive note and crossed the finish line in sixth place.
In the second moto Glenn wasn't in a good position with the start. ''I didn't get off to a good start but then had a good first lap in which I passed several riders and worked my way up to sixth place. I felt good the whole race but just didn't have the speed of the riders in front of me, so I finished sixth again."
With two sixth places in the heats, Glenn also finished in sixth place in the daily rankings. In the standings for the world championship he remains in seventh place, but is many points ahead of the eighth man. "I'm a little disappointed because after such a good Saturday I expected a little more, but on the other hand I scored twice and that is very important for the standings."
Next weekend the tenth race of the world championship will be held in St. Jean d'Angely, France.
