Haaker wins Iron Road Erzberg prologue, Andy Truyts 58th!
Let more than 1500 riders pass on a dirt road and it really doesn't look any better! Improving yesterday's time in the second prologue run was therefore quite a task. However, Colton Haaker succeeded and took the prologue victory from Erzberg debutant Josep Garcia.
Bad luck for that Cody Webb who today during the prologue fell a finger and broke bones in his foot. The SuperEnduro world champion will unfortunately not be there tomorrow. The many loose stones made it very treacherous! Ex-MXGP rider Nathan Watson finished seventh.
Thierry Pittens Thanks to yesterday's gun time, he remains the best lowlander in 37th place. But also Mark Wassink (44th) and Hans Vogels (45th) finally made it to the first row!
After a nice run Andy Truyts a good four seconds off his time and thus finished 58th. Whether that is enough to be allowed to start from the first starting row - a privilege for the first 50 - will become clear tomorrow. Some riders who managed to qualify at the front were aiming for this prologue and will not participate in the Red Bull Hare Scramble tomorrow!
Other lowlanders who qualified:
- Robin Holtmeulen (158th) also 2nd in the Endurocross
- Kevin Standaert (185th)
- Joey Smet (189th)
- Steven “Stoica” Stuyven (206th)
- Rens Dedecker (220th)
The Dutch Nina Klink finished second in the women's category after superstar Laia Sanz. Thanks to a 409th place overall, Nina can also start in the Hare Scramble tomorrow. Good luck to all lowlanders tomorrow!
