Yentel Martens dominates VLM in Haacht
Yentel Martens made a return through the large gate at the Kasteeldreef in Haacht-Tildonk. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider was fastest in both series ahead of Dietger Damiaens. Jilani Cambré was on the podium (3-6) ahead of home rider and organizer Kenny Janssens.
Perfect conditions today for the VLM riders in Haacht. Jilani – back from being away – Cambré rode to a very close pole in the morning! The Husqvarna enduro rider was 0,038 seconds faster than Dietger Damiaens. Yentel Martens, Jens Van Meer and Wouter Van Massenhoven completed the top 5… Less than half a second behind Cambré!
The first heat left little doubt about who was the strongest. Martens was away from the front and then took the lead from start to finish. Cambré had to let Damiaens go early, which made the battle for places of honor a spectacle. Man in form Van Massenhoven showed himself to be the fastest ahead of Janssens. After a bad start and a crash, BeTeMo rider Van Meer finished 7th. Banks became the fastest 250 rider ahead of Jelle Verbruggen.
Martens was also too strong in the second round, but home rider Janssens was able to offer his supporters a holeshot! The differences in the second heat turned out to be much smaller than in the opener. Just like in the timed training, the riders did not give each other an inch. Damiaens started outside the top five but again completed a strong race. Dietger thus distinguished himself as 'best of the rest' ahead of Van Meer, Janssens and Van Massenhoven. Ultimately, the first five riders crossed the line within 10 seconds.
250 victory for Jelle Verbruggen
Jelle Verbruggen, who finished 4th in Lille last week, pulled off a great second race. Starting in the middle of the pack, he rode to 8th place overall, good for the victory in the quarter liters and the overall victory for Kristof Scheynen (4-2) and Dieter Vromans (3-3).
