EMX250: Special win for Mel Pocock!
After winning the EMX250 title in 2012, Mel Pocock switched to the MX2 World Championship. The 2012 season would be his last on the 250F, but things went completely wrong during the first race of the Maxxis British Championship. The then Kawasaki rider injured his hand and even seemed to lose it! Fortunately, he 'only' lost his thumb and everything turned out fine, but according to the doctors he would no longer be active at the altitude level. Today the REVO Husqvarna rider proved them wrong by winning the first round of the EMX250 in Redsand! Roan van de Moosdijk came sixth, he is the only Laaglander to have qualified for this competition.
After the starting gate falls, things quickly go wrong with debutant Kevin Horgmo and pole starter Martin Barr crashing. In the first corner there is another crash with about ten riders crashing to the ground. Anthony Bourdon takes the lead ahead of Dylan Walsh (photo) and Tom Vialle. After almost ten minutes of the race, Walsh takes the lead, but Pocock is then the fastest man on the circuit and halfway through the race the 25-year-old former champion takes the lead. Not much later, Vialle, the son of former GP rider Frederic Vialle, manages to take over second place. He doesn't lose sight of Pocock, but the Brit cannot be outdone and wins! A very special victory that is received with a shout of joy. Pierre Goupillon drives a great race and the BUD Racing rider comes third ahead of Steven Clarke. The Brit has been to the USA for a while but comes back to Europe and makes an immediate impression. Clarke did not get further than the 36th training time, but in the match he left no doubt about it. Walsh comes fifth ahead of Van de Moosdijk.
