AMA: Anderson again, problems for Roczen and Tomac.
Beforehand, the title battle would take place between So Tomac, Marvin Musquin and very likely Ken Roczen. After six games it seems that Jason Anderson will have to fight with Justin Barcia en Cole Seely! The Husqvarna rider currently has the best credentials and is also the only rider of this trio with victories in 2018. This also applies in San Diego where 'El Hombre' managed to win for Musquin and Blake Baggett. Not a good day for Roczen who crashed in the final and Tomac who didn't even play in the final!
When the starting gate goes down, Seely gets the best start ahead of Barcia, Musquin, Anderson and Chad Reed! The Australian quickly worked his way up to second place but then dropped back to fourth after missing the triple. Seely comes out of the first lap with a lead of more than two seconds and he manages to hold the lead for the first half of the race. Then comes Anderson and the first real attack is successful! Anderson immediately takes distance and wins ahead of Musquin and Baggett, who make it an 'Austrian podium' in the Petco Park. Seely struggles in the final phase and drops back to fourth place. Broc Tickle scores his best performance of this season, the KTM rider finishes fifth. Barcia briefly held third place, but he appears to be having machine problems, causing him to drop back to eighth place. Roczen has a duel with Cooper Webb in the early stages and the duo collides. They fall and the German's right arm gets caught between the rear tire and the swingarm of the Yamaha! The exact damage after the crash is not yet known.
