AMA: Shane Mcelrath starts again with victory.
There is of course something special about winning the first match of the season. Last year knew Shane McElrath to triumph, this year the KTM rider did so again. The 23-year-old Mcelrath is the first leader in the MonsterEnergy AMA Supercross 250F WestCoast Championship. Aaron Plessinger also came in second this year Adam Cianciarulo. For defending champion Justin Hill was no higher than seventh place.
The first Holeshot Award goes to Mcelrath who managed to get through to fast starter Alex Martin. Christian Craig follows in third ahead of teammate Chase Sexton and Cianciarulo. In the opening lap Craig manages to work his way up to second place while Martin sees Plessinger and Cianciarulo pass not much later. Both Plessinger and Cianciarulo in turn also manage to leave Craig behind them. After more than five minutes of racing, leader Mcelrath already has a six-second lead over Plessinger. Joey Savatgy has now worked his way up to fifth place at the expense of Martin. However, the Kawasaki rider wants more and can take over fourth place well into the second half of the race. Nothing changes at the front, just like last year, McElrath drives a lonely race and he wins. Plessinger manages to stay ahead of Cianciarulo, allowing these different brands to climb onto the podium.
