Mathias Van Hoof finally back on the bike!
It was seven long months with many downs and only a few ups, but finally enduro talent Mathias Van Hoof has been given the green light again by Doctor Claes. In March the Denicol rider suffered a serious knee injury.
Mathias says: “Last week I had to take medical and physical tests in the hospital in Herentals. These tests were recorded months ago and I lived and worked very hard to complete them successfully.” No sooner said than done and Mathias passed both tests and was allowed to start training intensively with the bike again and resume the motorcycle training gradually.
“During the tests themselves I didn't have a very good feeling. However, when the doctor analyzed the tests afterwards, they turned out to be positive and I was told that I could start driving again. I was really happy with this good news because the rehabilitation was harder than expected. They will soon be injecting PRPs to stimulate cartilage production.”
Less than 30 minutes after the green light was given, Mathias' Beta 300 was already turning back and the first meters were made since March 13. “What a wonderful feeling to finally be able to ride a motorcycle again. I took a leisurely ride to get back into it and the feeling was immediately good. I do notice that the physicality and finesse are a bit gone, but I am sure that they will return soon.
But one thing prevailed: How I missed this! All the more I realized that enduro riding is something I really enjoy doing. I would like to thank Doctor Claes for the good care. I would also like to thank my girlfriend Jasna, coach Bengt (Laeremans), parents, friends and sponsors for helping me through this difficult period and supporting me. ”
Now we will slowly build up to the 2018 season. There is a small chance that Mathias will still be in action at the end of the year in the ONK's enduro, but that is now too early to be sure. We will have to wait and see how the reconstruction progresses in the coming weeks and training sessions.
