Will Bobryshev lose his HRC seat???
Evgeny Bobryshev seemed on his way to taking the place as teammate next to Tim Gajser on the HRC Honda motorcycle in 2018 and Honda also initially had little desire to let the likeable Russian who has been in service since 2011 go on the CRF450R. But the situation has now apparently changed. Bobryshev, who was awaiting confirmation for a ninth season in Honda colors from the Japanese management, was reportedly told on Sunday that there is no longer a place for him in the team for next season.
The 29-year-old Bobryshev falls outside the strategy of the HRC bosses who are now looking at a younger rider and at the many Grand Prix winners in the paddock at the moment. Many drivers are looking for a team and the market is busy with negotiations and contract discussions that are in the hands of the manufacturers and their satellite teams.
Bobryshev thus joins Jordi Tixier, Max Nagl, Kevin Strijbos, Valentin Guillod, Tommy Searle, Benoit Paturel and Jose Butron, who are all still looking for a place in 2018. HRC already has a multi-year contract with Tim Gajser and the Slovenian will not celebrate his 8st birthday until September 21. It is still unknown who will drive the second HRC frame of the most sought-after Factory Bike next to the No. 1 of 2016.
The Russian Bobryshev took his first Grand Prix victory with Honda in 2011 and was still a sure podium candidate if he were spared from injuries. The highlight of his career was a third place in the final standings of the MXGP World Championship in 2015. A popular rider, easy to work with and with keen knowledge and appreciation in the development of the CRF450R for almost a decade... in short the #777 must be now going to other places and most likely a different bike since he made his appearance in the MXGP class in 2010.
