Tough Swedish GP for Micha-Boy De Waal
Vamo Honda's Micha Boy De Waal was put to the test last weekend in Uddevalla, Sweden, where the 16th round of the Motocross World Championship took place. The Dutch MX2 rider finished 28th in the first moto but retired in the second after hurting his knee.
Four years ago, De Waal excelled in the so-called Motor Stadium in Glimminge, the official name of the cross track in Uddevalla, during the final of the Swedish EMX250 round. De Waal finished fifth, following in the wake of fellow countryman Brian Bogers. Enough reasons for the popular rider from Veen to look forward to the Swedish Grand Prix! A lot of work had been done on the track for this edition of the Swedish GP, but the Vamo Honda rider quickly found his feet.
Although the feeling with the bike and the circuit were good, De Waal did not get further than a 26th time during timed training. In the qualifying heat, the No Fear Energy drink rider steered his CRF250R to a decent starting position. Unfortunately, Micha was unable to capitalize on this because he fell in the first round. De Waal did everything he could to come back and finished 24th.
The first race on Sunday started poorly because the Vamo Honda rider had a bad start. De Waal rolled up his sleeves in his well-known style and pushed his way to the front. However, his progress was stopped when he ended up off the track during a jump. Micha could no longer get into his rhythm and had to settle for a disappointing 30th place after 2 minutes and 28 laps. De Waal also had a bad start in the second moto. Micha was 24th when he twisted his knee. He experienced so much inconvenience that he quit the match.
Micha-Boy De Waal: “This is not how I envisioned my return to Uddevalla! In the first series I twisted my knee just when I wanted to turn back onto the track after ending up off the track. In the second moto I hit my knee a second time, which made it impossible to finish. A disappointing weekend without a doubt, but we must remain positive. We will miss the next GP in Jacksonville so that we have more time to be fit again for my second home GP in Assen.”
