Jens Van Meer keeps Kenny Janssens from winning at home!
Have you ever seen the film 'Everyone Famous'? At the VLM in Kampenhout today it looked like a sequel: Everyone is happy... Or almost everyone. After all, both the organization in Kampenhout, the race and all side activities could count on a lot of support. Kenny Janssens was also able to end his home match on a positive note. Although he had to let Jens van Meer win twice, Kenny barely lost one point in the championship standings. For Wouter Van Massenhoven, Kampenhout turned out poorly.
As often this season, Jens Van Meer, Kenny Janssens and Wouter Van Massenhoven were in the top 3 during the timed training. This time Van Massenhoven was the fastest, Janssens had to give in 0,3 seconds. Guest driver Yannick Heylen qualified fourth.
Wouter Van Massenhoven continued his momentum in the first moto. From start to finish, the Betemo class took the lead. After so many third places in the championship races, finally a deserved victory for Wouter. Janssens came second ahead of Van Meer and Banken. Heylen, who had started excellently, disappeared from the match early on. Jonathan Banken, good for 4th overall, once again won the MX2.
Shoulder injury for Van Massenhoven
No matter how well Wouter Van Massenhoven's day started at the start of the second heat, things unfortunately went wrong. After all, Van Massenhoven fell and injured his shoulder. The shoulder was put back into place under anesthesia. Although Wouter will probably also have to have surgery on this shoulder. Hopefully we will see Van Massenhoven back on the bike soon, but due to this injury, the last theoretical chance of the title now seems to have completely disappeared. In any case, MXMag wishes Wouter a speedy recovery.
CKP Racing-MX Topshop rider Jens Van Meer will of course continue to fight for his chances in the battle for the 2017 Championship! In the second heat Jens rode a perfect course and left Janssens behind. Once again Kenny was as regular as ever. Banks now did one place better while Greg Smets put in his best performance of the day with a nice fourth place.
Perhaps the surprise of the day came from the Greek Emmanuel Kritikos who, after an adjustment period, feel better and better on the VLM. The MC De Buiting rider quickly took his first podium as he finished fourth in the final standings, three points behind Gunther Truyens. Or was Gunther Truyens himself the surprise? Gunther, who also rode a home race himself, excelled especially in the first heat in which he finished seventh. Kampenhout confirmed an increasing form for the Dapa Sport. In the standings, Truyens rises from 10 to 9, he follows Smets by one point and still has the prospect of more!
After a long and busy weekend, Kenny Janssens went to bed tired but satisfied. Janssens and Truyens were not the only local heroes who returned home with a good feeling. On Saturday, Yoran Moens had won his two rounds in the Juniors at the JMS.
