AMA: JGR becomes new Suzuki factory team
Suzuki Motor of America yesterday announced the Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing Team. This means that the JGR team will, as expected, become Suzuki's new factory team after the announcement that RCH Suzuki will fold at the end of this season. The newly formed team will come out in Monster Energy AMA Supercross and Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, in both the 450 and 250.
With this, Suzuki indicates that they will also continue to invest in competition to promote their off-road products. Last year, Suzuki launched the RM Army in the US. Suzuki RM-Z450, RM-Z250, RM85 and RMX450Z riders who participate in this support program can expect numerous benefits. The support for Suzuki bonuses, which they call contingency in the US, amounts to more than $6 million.
The new Autotrader/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing Team will also field two 250 riders in each regional SX championship. The riders will be filled in the coming weeks. Weston Peick en Phil Nicoletti would likely stay but the future of Justin Barcia, Kyle Cunningham, Matt Bisceglia would be uncertain, according to Transworld Motocross. Jeremy Albrecht has already been confirmed as the 'new' manager by team owner Coy Gibbs.
JGR will also work with Suzuki to develop and sell tuning parts for motocross and off-road motorcycles.
