Micha-Boy De Waal suffers a setback in Loket
After his impressive 8th place in the final standings of the Ducht Masters of Motocross MX1 with No Fear Jumbo BT Motorsport, Micha-Boy De Waal went back to work on his MX2 bike in Loket, Czechia. De Waal fought his way to one World Championship point in the 13th GP of the season.
The Loket track, close to the tourist area Carlsbad, has been a permanent fixture on the international motocross calendar since 1995. Like most of his competitors, Micha was well familiar with the fast, slippery hard track. A weak start or a bad spot behind the starting gate can jeopardize a good end result anywhere, but there are few other places where overtaking is as difficult as in Loket. Yet this was exactly the tough assignment Micha-Boy De Waal awaited after a disappointing first day.
A difficult time training resulted in the driver from Veen finishing in 34th position. The qualifying race also did not go as planned. After a bad start, Micha found it difficult to get into his rhythm. To make matters worse, he also crashed, eventually finishing 26th. Despite his difficult starting position, the Let's go Honda rider determined to give it his all on Sunday. After a crash at the start, De Waal sent his CRF250R from very last to 20th place! A great achievement that is also an MXGP-TV commentator Paul Malin had not been missed.
Later in the day, the greasy surface of the first heat had made way for a dry track. Micha left in 32nd place and then climbed to 24th place. Unfortunately he made a mistake with four laps to go. De Waal ultimately finished 23rd.
On August 5 and 6, the Vamo Honda team will be working in its own 'backyard' during the Belgian Grand Prix in Lommel.
Micha-Boy De Waal: "The track changed a lot over the weekend. Saturday was difficult because I didn't really have a good feeling. The first heat was much better and I liked the muddy track. I had a nice pace and was able to come back from last place to P20. The circumstances were completely different for the second race. The track had dried up but that made overtaking even more difficult. I would like to thank Vamo Honda, No Fear Energy and Jumbo for their support. On to Lommel!”
