Jeffrey Herlings takes Dutch Masters title!
Jeffrey Herlings rode convincingly to overall victory and his first MX1 title today in Lichtenvoorde! Gautier Paulin started the weekend 12 points behind Herlings, but the stylish Frenchman was never able to make a fist. To the delight of the Zwarte Cross audience, 'the Bullit' took two big victories. Max Nagl (2-2) finished second ahead of teammate Paulin.
Herlings was already very convincing on Saturday and the KTM factory rider continued that line today. Max Nagl took the holeshot but Jeffrey wasted no time. After 'The Bullit' passed the German, the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna trio Nagl-Paulin-Anstie stayed very close together. At the finish the differences were considerable. And after more 30 minutes of racing, Jeffrey had built up a lead of 35 seconds! Bengtsson, fourth in the standings, finished fifth ahead of van der Mierden and 'CKK'. DAM Racing KTM rider Dietger Damiaens achieved his best Dutch Masters performance with a 9th place. Before the final round of the championship, the difference between Herlings and Paulin was 17 points.
The Bullit unopposed!
Once again, Nagl was the first to dive into the left bend after the start, but Herlings and Paulin were in his wake. Without really pushing, Jeffrey built up a considerable lead over Nagl while Paulin settled for third place. No Husqvarna trio in the top 5 this time as Anstie disappeared from the race with smoke coming from under the saddle. Rick Satink achieved a surprising, but no less impressive 4th place! Van der Mierden finished fifth, De Waal sixth. Damiaens now finished eighth!
Due to Anstie's bad luck, Filip Bengtsson had the prospect of third place in the final standings until the last lap, but the fast Swede had a serious fall. Bengtsson did not reach the finish. Due to the failure of both 'Fillibang' and Anstie, Nagl moved to third place in the final standings! Sven van der Mierden was able to benefit from the absence of Yentel Martens, finishing sixth.
