VLM: Damiaens & Van Mieghem win in Lommel!
After Molenbeersel, another championship test was on the program for the VLM inters. So it was all hands on deck in Lommel and the top players understood that all too well! Jens Van Meer took one heat and finished second once. A strong Dietger Damiaens took the other series victory, having finished just 2,8 seconds behind Van Meer in the first race. At the Inters MX2, Jordi Van Mieghem won the two heats!
In the morning, Wesley Verheyen was the fastest in the Lommel sand, but he did not really score in the heats. Steven De Beuckelaer led the pack in the first heat with Kenny Janssens in second position. Jens Van Meer rode very strongly and took the lead in just a few laps. Dietger Damiaens and Wouter Van Massenhoven also started around 10th place and had a great time in the sandbox of Lommel as both men completed the top three. Lead starter De Beuckelaer finished 4th, Janssens 5th. Due to a problem with the CDI, Seronval had to settle for 8th place.
In the second heat it was Kenny Janssens followed by Steve Seronval who got off to the best start. But after a few laps Seronval disappears from the front of the race. Steve felt anything but well and had to leave the match unwell.
Damiaens, who started in 4th position, takes the lead. It is once again the same riders as the first heat who held sway. Van Meer managed to advance from 6 to 2 and Van Massenhoven achieved a remarkable catch-up race from 16 to 3. At the front, Dietger made a big impression, winning the heat with an advantage of almost 13 seconds over Jens Van Meer.
Among the MX2 riders, an outstanding Jordi Van Mieghem rode a remarkable first moto from very last place to 9th position, making him the first MX2 rider. He was also the best in the second round on the lighter machine and was rewarded with two series victories and the overall victory! Due to the absence of the injured Cedric Grobben, we also looked forward to the evolution of the Inters MX1 championship. A regular Kenny Janssens (4-5) did a great job there. The Keerberg KTM Racing Center pilot is now the new leader in the standings, Jens Van Meer follows on 22 points, Grobben is now third on 31 points. Reigning champion Wesley Verheyen, sixth today, is also sixth in the standings.
