VMCF Bertem: Frederic Weigert is the most regular Easter bunny!
The ML team was amply rewarded for their hard work in Bertem because the pilots and spectators were present on the hard circuit. The two-day event produced no fewer than three different winners with Axel Nijs who managed to dominate the Sunday edition in his home race.
In the first heat, Nijs took the victory ahead of Frederic Weigert and the surprising Stef Bastaens. Tom Schepmans and B-inter David Persoon closed the top five in that first heat. Unlucky ones here were David Foguenne, Roy Sillien and Roel Geurts who disappeared from the race after crashes. The second was again dominated by Axel Nijs who was able to keep Vincent Collet and Junior Slegers behind him. Glenn Bielen and Frederic Weigert, who crashed at the start, were able to finish at four and five. For Stef Bastaens, the Easter weekend ended here with a suspected broken collarbone.
A completely different story on Easter Monday where heavy rainfall had transformed the circuit into a slide. As the day progressed the track also improved ending the day on a perfect track. Frederic Weigert opened strongly and took the third heat ahead of Axel Nijs and Vincent Collet. Junior Slegers and Jasper Van Der Mieren kept young promise Jeremy Joris in sixth place.
Ken De Dijcker also showed up for the second day of racing, but De Dijcker disappeared from the series after emerging as leader. The final sequence would resulted in the decision for the Easter Trophy and Ken De Dijcker was fastest ahead of Vincent Collet and Frederic Weigert. Axel Nijs now finished fourth ahead of Jasper Van Der Mieren. For example, Frederic Weigert took the Easter Trophy at the VMCF ahead of Vincent Collet and Junior Slegers, who suffered a heavy fall in the first round in the final series.
In the MX2 class, victory went to Axel Nijs, while the B class was won for the first time this season by David Persoon, who preceded Tony Bogaert and Donny Vandekerkhove.
