ONK: Kouwenberg and Bengtsson win in Markelo!
The fourth round of the ONK Motocross in Markelo was dominated in the MX1 by Filip Bengtsson who won both heats. Micha-Boy De Waal (2-3) and Jonathan Bengtsson (4-2) completed the podium. In MX2, Nick Kouwenberg achieved the double!
Some tenors who we saw at work in the ONK in recent weeks had commitments elsewhere today. No Yentel Martens or Jeffrey Dewulf due to BK in Lommel and Rick Elzinga was also absent as he rode the 24MX Tour. Going to the Herikerberg is always fun and there was still enough quality at the start for great winners and fascinating competitions.
In the MX1 timed training, Micha-Boy de Waal set a great time, which was no less than 0,6 seconds faster than Filip Bengtsson. Jonathan Bengtsson (third), Ceriel Klein Kromhof (fourth) and Eric Leijtens (fifth) were also in good shape. In Oss, 'Fillibang' was crowned Best of the rest with a 7th place or first private driver. Bengtsson convincingly continued this line in Markelo.
Twice the JH-MX Service rider dominated from start to finish! Micha-Boy de Waal came back twice well from Bengtsson and so deservedly finished second overall ahead of Jonathan Bengtsson. Home rider Rick Satink managed to keep Bengtsson behind him in the first race with a good third place, but ultimately narrowly missed the podium. Ceriel-Klein Kromhoff had to deal with two bad luck today.
A happy 'Kouwy' is a fast Kouwy and that was proven once again in Markelo! Nick qualified second in the morning after the super fast Roan van de Moosdijk. In the first moto there was a small hiccup at the start, after which things went better and better for the former European MX2 champion. Van de Moosdijk made a big impression at the front. The ASTES4-TESAR pilot had blown away the competition in the timed training; Kouwenberg followed at almost 2,8 seconds, Lars Van Berkel at just under 3 seconds.
Van de Moosdijk had built up a considerable lead in the first heat when things went wrong. With four laps to go, he hurt his foot and disappeared from the race. Kouwenberg took advantage but had to watch out for Van Berkel who came up strong and deservedly finished second. The second heat was a repeat of the first, at least in terms of the result. Now Kouwenberg took the lead after just one lap. First the surprising Dane Nichlas Bjerregaard finished second, but Lars Berkel completed a strong catch-up race. Starting outside the top 10, the Vamo-Honda driver turned out to be the fastest man in the race. In the last lap Lars squeezed everything out to end up just over a second behind Kouwenberg. Bjerregaard was on the podium, Noud Van Kraaij and Roy Van Heugten finished fourth and fifth overall respectively.
In the 125cc there was a double for the British Christopher Mills. He made it twice ahead of Raf Meuwissen, Jeroen Bussink came third. Mills also did well in the ONK standings as neither leader Dankers, nor Elzinga, Horgmo and Olsson were present!
