BREAKING: Christian Craig replaces Ken Roczen!
Now that it has become apparent how serious Ken Roczen's injuries are, Team Honda HRC has started looking for a replacement for the AMA Pro Motocross series. The solution was found in Christian Craig! Craig currently rides for GEICO Honda in the Lites but he does have experience on the 450.
Starting at the outdoor opener at Hangtown on May 20, we will see Craig alongside Cole Seely on the factory Honda CRF450R. The 25-year-old driver's agreement applies in full Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship over 12 rounds.
Also raced during the 2009, '11, '12 and '14 Pro Motocross seasons Christian Craig already 450. The Californian's best result in the 450 outdoors is seventh place. It was earlier too Justin Brayton asked by Honda for the role of substitute for Roczen. In recent seasons, HRC Honda has always switched on the Swede Fredrik Noren as a substitute for the outdoors.
Christian Craig: “When I got a call from HRC asking if I wanted to fill in, I couldn't stop smiling. Getting this opportunity is truly an honor! Of course everyone, including myself, is very disappointed that Ken got injured. I will do everything I can to make the team and Kenny happy with their choice of me as his replacement. I'm going into the season with an open mind and I'm going to try to prepare as best as possible. The 450 class is stronger than ever, but hopefully I can adapt to the speed after the first few races. A big thank you goes out to the entire HRC Honda and GEICO Honda team for making this possible. I am beyond grateful!”
Team Honda HRC manager Dan Betley: “We are very happy to have Christian riding for us in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. In the past he has already shown that he has the speed for the 450 class. I think he has the potential for good results. GEICO Honda is part of the Honda family and we have a great relationship. That is why we are very grateful to them for allowing us to loan Christian for a season. ”
