Ryan Dungey rules Atlanta
Ryan Dungey has won the eighth race of the AMA Monster Energy Supercross without any problems. It was Dungey's fifth victory in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, putting him on par with Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Carmichael, who also won five times in Atlanta.
Second place in Atlanta went to Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Eli Tomac, who only started ninth and was still able to work his way up to second place. Blake Baggett drove his best race of the year and cashed in with the third podium place, which was his first of the season. Things went less well for Marvin Musquin in Atlanta, after a less good start (13th) he came back a bit, but more than a fifth place was not possible for the Frenchman.
In the standings, Ryan Dungey can increase his lead over his closest competitors after a few bad weeks. Marvin Musquin is now 25 points behind and Eli Tomac already has 27 to make up for the Red Bull KTM rider.
In the SX250 East Coast class we got the second race of the championship. The victory in Atlanta went to Zach Osborne, who immediately took his very first victory of his career in the AMA Supercross series. The ex-GP rider not only took the win but also became the new leader in the standings. Joey Savatgy, who took victory in Minneapolis last week, fell just off the podium with his fourth place. Frenchman Dylan Ferrandis, who took an impressive sixth place last weekend, only finished 18th in Atlanta.
