Preview: MX Go-Karting for vzw Bijs
This Saturday, December 3, the first of two-day 'Charity Race' will be contested in Sint Niklaas. The JPR Indoor karting center is the place where it will take place and all in the spirit of the non-profit organization Bijs. This organization is committed to offering children with disabilities a place of care. These children can be cared for at the 'Bijs' day and night. Partly to offer them continuity and comfort, partly to reduce the parenting and care burden that is often heavy for parents. The need for such private initiatives can be deduced from the very long waiting lists that have arisen in the healthcare sector over the years.
That motocross riders have a big heart is not only shown by their daring maneuvers in their sport. The response to this initiative was so overwhelming that creator and organizer Gino Maes immediately decided to make it a two-day event on December 3 and 10!
On this first Saturday, 18 teams will appear at the start. These teams include some top names that we certainly want to share with you. For example, we see 3-time Belgian cycling champion Tom Steels participating. In addition to all this, the former top cyclist and now sports director at Etixx-Quick Step is also the father of three children. One of these children, Lobke, is physically and mentally limited. As a result, the 9-time stage winner in the Tour de France has been closely involved in the operation of the non-profit organization Bijs. He will form the team 'Bijs 1 Boem Bang' with parents Willy, Hans and sympathizer Jeroen.
Also brought from the cycling world by former Tour stage winner Tom Steels is Jo Planckaert. Now working for the Etixx-Quick Step team as a driver for the VIPs, Jo Planckaert took part in a Rally competition in the distant past. In a much more distant past, the man from the illustrious cycling family also finished on the podium of Paris-Roubaix. Together with Isaac and Lucas Devos, he brings two walking 'Google maps' that help the Etixx-Quick Step team to avoid the hectic pace of classical work and take the shortest routes. The fourth man comes along is a mechanic and the man with the open mind, namely Nicolas Coosemans.
As if that wasn't enough 'cycling crazy' people, we see Jan Denuwelaere appear in Team McDo, what would they like to eat? The former motocross rider who surprised friend and foe on a very wet Sunday in 2012 in Essen. The man who is the only one who can say that he has managed to beat Rob Peeters and Niels Albert on his stomach, back, buttocks, ... will form a team in Sint-Niklaas with MCLB Warrior Wietse Brackman and World Championship MXGP pilots Jens Getteman and Damon Graulus.
Another nice team is the one with European 125cc Champion and Junior World Champion 125cc; Jago Geerts! The man from Balen has as teammates: Greg Smets, Robbe Peeters and Dries Peetermans. This team may bring another legendary mascot!
The return of 'Team retired' is also legendary. Even if it is not in a motocross race, the return of Gunther Ghysels will be a reason for many of you to be there! The former 'Inter' brings Mathias Geirnaert, Niels Meganck and Gilles Tack in his wake. If it were a motocross or pocket bike race, we could estimate the chances of this team. But now it's a waste of money.
If we go down the list of teams and the associated names, team 'De Frikandellen' is undoubtedly, together with Team McDo, the tastiest name of the pack. The team consisting of Robin Bakens, Benjamin Tinck and the two spring chickens: Tallon Verhelst and Tom Hemelaer can count on a lot of track knowledge. All four gentlemen are 'regional de l'étape', to put it in racing terms. The question is of course whether this will lead them to victory!
Where there is food, there must of course also be drinks and the team: 'Team Big Nestea' takes care of that. Who doesn't like a nice cool ice tea, the question is whether it is so tasty with a Frikandel or McDo?! Now all joking aside, the Big Nestea team comes with brothers Rob and Bo Declercq. Both can count on the support of third man Leroy De Vleesschauwer.
For our Dutch friends, the 'MOB' team is an interesting participant! Their kart will be alternately driven by renowned EMX125 names such as Roan van de Moosdijk and Raf Meuwissen, supplemented by former Dutch champion Nick Horsten and young man Neal van Haasteren. It will be interesting to see whether these youngsters are also able to win with a kart, and whether we can also prepare for a 'Geerts - van de Moosdijk' duel on the karting track!
Every participant is expected in Sint-Niklaas at 17:30 PM. Everyone can then register there in the JPR Indoor karting building. You can then change into your motocross clothing or cycling clothing and then start the timed training at 18 p.m. The race will start at 19 p.m. sharp, with a traditional start as you see in a Formula 1 race! The race will last three hours and the finish flag will fall at 22 pm! This will be followed by the awards ceremony with prizes that we have received from various sponsors such as Denicol Motor Oils, MX477, R,E,S, Axel, The Art Of Motocross, Red Bull, Ryno Power Axel Roelants, TwinAir, DizzFactory and MXWorld.
