SMX: How does everything work…
Who will win the very first edition of the SMX “Riders Cup” in Veltins-Arena and which manufacturer will put the “Manufacturers Cup” in its trophy cabinet for the first time. We will get an answer to all these questions on Saturday night... But how does everything work??? The Monster Energy SMX Riders' and Manufacturers' Cup is a completely new concept and therefore includes a word of explanation about how everything will work in the VELTINS Arena.
How does everything work:
- Each manufacturer, KTM, Honda, Husqvarna, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki have a team of four riders. So three regular drivers and a 'Joker'. The Joker can replace any rider in the team at any time.
- The riders can ride the bike they want from 245cc to 450cc, regardless of their age. Also it does not matter if the engine is 4-stroke or 2-stroke.
- Each team will have a team captain, and that driver will also drive the 'Superpole' race.
- The 'Superpole' is in which the position on the starting grid will be determined by a sprint of 2 laps. Only six riders will ride the 'Superpole', so one rider from each participating team.
- A total of three races will be held. There will be three riders per team. The team with the lowest score at the end of the event will win the SMX.
- The prize money is provided for the individual overall winner, the winning manufacturer and for the best MX2 rider
- The points system for drivers and manufacturers is as follows: one point for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, three points for 3rd, etc…
- Nine results are expected from each team. The seven best results are counted together and the two worst results are therefore excluded.
The prize pool:
Prize money for the individual Final Winner: – 1st: €50.000 – 2nd: €30.000 – 3rd: €20.000
The best placed MX2 rider will receive €10.000.
Prize money for the winning Factory Team: – 1st: €50.000 – 2nd: €30.000 – 3rd: €20.000
