One point for Robin Bakens in Assen!
Just like the whole thing CreyMert racing team stood too Robin Bakens at the start of it EMX250 in Assen. The Belgian had achieved a good result in Lommel in the second heat, where he finished in 13th place. However, things went a bit slower in Assen and he had to go home with one point.
The problems started on Saturday during practice, just when the free practice was over and the timed practice started, the engine started to sputter a bit. In order not to take any risks, Robin rode in to switch to the reserve engine, but that took him a bit out of rhythm and he set a 33rd time.
7 hours later the first heat was on the program, on a circuit that had been completely changed and broken, Robin needed some time to adjust, but he did not get that time. At the start the reaction was not what it should have been and he came away from the starting gate almost last. Given the narrow circuit, it was a matter of staying out of trouble in the first laps. After a fairly good race, things went wrong after fifteen minutes of racing. Bakens tried to increase the pace, made a mistake and fell. This completely broke the rhythm and Bakens' courage sank into his Falco bones; after another mistake, a 31st place was the result.
In the second heat on Sunday things went better right from the start, the CreyMert Racing Honda shot off the starting blocks like a rocket and despite the lesser choice at the starting gate, Bakens managed to come out of the first few corners in around 20th place. Immediately work was done to drive further forward, it was clear, Bakens felt better than on Saturday. However, the high pace at the beginning of the heat cost Bakens a few places at the end of the series, but with an ultimate final offensive, a point could still be scored. Thanks to this point, Bakens finished 26th overall.
Robin Bakens: “It wasn't easy, both in training and in the first heat things went a bit wrong. In the first moto my setup wasn't what it should be and I had to really find a rhythm after such a bad start. Fortunately, the CreyMert Racing crew put a lot of work into adjusting the engine for Sunday and it paid off. After my performance in Lommel, I can't be happy with this one point, but it is a relief that I can score a point even during such a difficult weekend. Obviously I couldn't do this alone and I would like to thank everyone who made this possible for me!”
