Cairoli narrowly takes the win ahead of Desalle in Matterley Basin
Antonio Cairoli has won the British Grand Prix in Matterley Basin by just one point. Our compatriot Clement Desalle again just misses the GP victory, but comes within four points of current leader Max Nagl in the title battle. Frenchman Romain Febvre finished third in the final standings and confirmed once again by winning the second series, which was also his first in the MXGP.
Antonio Cairoli wins after the restart…
This first series was somewhat marred after a heavy fall by the Italian Davide Guarneri after almost 15 minutes of the match. The red flag was immediately shown and the match was stopped. Too bad for Clement Desalle who was well in the lead ahead of Cairoli. So after a while we had a restart where Antonio Cairoli got away fastest and did not relinquish the lead. Clement Desalle now finished second, although he had to keep an eye on Max Nagl in the last two laps. This restart worked out well for the German because he crashed in the opening lap and was therefore at the very back of the field. Now after this restart, the leader in the standings made a big mistake and finished third, right behind Desalle. The Russian Bobryshev also rode a strong series and finished fourth ahead of home rider Shaun Simpson. Jeremy Van Horebeek took tenth place just ahead of Ken De Dijcker and our northern neighbor Glenn Coldenhoff finished sixteenth.

“Rookie Romain Febvre” took the series victory and Cairoli the Grand Prix…
It was home rider Shaun Simpson who took the holeshot ahead of Nagl, Febvre, Cairoli and Desalle. Simpson led for three laps and then it was Desalle's turn. In the meantime, Cairoli had also made a slide and fell back to seventh place. At the front, Desalle didn't really pull away and it was Simpson, Febvre and Nagl who were battling each other for second place. Romain Febvre was the biggest winner of this fight, moving into second place behind Desalle. Max Nagl turned out to be the loser and even had to let Bobryshev and a little later Cairoli pass. Febvre then continued the hunt for Desalle and took the lead just after halfway through the race. Cairoli had also already dealt with Bobryshev and ended up in third place. Clement Desalle tried to attack Febvre in the final laps, but the Frenchman kept up the speed and took his first MXGP series victory. Antonio Cairoli finished third after Febvre and Desalle, but took the Grand Prix victory with one meager point over Desalle. Ken De Dijcker took a good eighth place, just ahead of the returning Jeremy Van Horebeek who finished ninth. Finally, the Dutchman Glenn Coldenhoff finished fourteenth.
