Kevin Strijbos must pass for Argentina
Kevin Strijbos will not travel to Argentina next weekend for the third round of the MXGP World Championship. The Rockstar Energy Suzuki rider has been suffering from a wrist injury for quite some time and, together with the team, decided to have surgery on the painful wrist. He does not yet know how long Strijbos will be sidelined.
Kevin Strijbos: “I won't be competing in Argentina next weekend. I had an MRI scan yesterday and it showed that the inflammation is too intense to continue. From the first international race at Hawkstone Park I went from weekend to weekend without riding during the week because it was too painful. At this level it is difficult to continue doing this and having to compete with the best riders in the world. So after 2 months, 3 injections and a lot of painkillers we decided to have surgery tomorrow and have it fixed. It's a hard decision that we made together with the team, especially because I feel I had the speed. But the championship is still long and this may be the best solution. I don't know when I will be able to drive back and will probably have to miss Italy too. It will depend on how it all goes and I certainly don't want to act too hastily, because the championship is already over."
