Damon Graulus signs with KEMEA Yamaha for 2015
Damon Graulus and the KEMEA Yamaha team have signed an agreement for next year with the intention of a long-term collaboration. The 19-year-old from Vossem will participate in the MX2 World Championship next year alongside Frenchman Benoit Paturel.
Graulus is currently the reigning French MX2 champion and had planned to race his first full World Championship MX2014 season in 2. His best result was a 7th place during the first round of the Spanish GP in Talavera de la Reina. Damon is currently 20th in the standings after missing several GPs. Damon will not be in action again this season after injuring his elbow in the Finnish GP.
Damon Graulus: I am thrilled to be joining the KEMEA Yamaha team. It cannot be hidden that the team has taken a big step forward in recent years and everyone works very professionally. Moreover, it is a Belgian team, which is very important to me. That makes many things such as communication a lot easier. Marnicq's experience will certainly help me make progress and I'm really looking forward to trying the bike. I've always loved riding Japanese bikes and I'm sure the YZ250F will suit me. This year I didn't have a super good season, but I learned a lot. I now know what I have to focus on this winter and I will try to work on that as hard as possible. The goal for next year is a top 10 place with hopefully some outliers.
Marnicq Bervoets, KEMEA Yamaha, team manager: I know Damon has a lot of potential. He won a lot when he rode 85cc and I don't think we've seen everything from him yet. With the right guidance and training, I believe he can develop into a top rider. The most important thing for Damon is to bring regularity to his results. He is already very fast in some races but he always needs to be fast on any surface. Damon is already super motivated and that is the most important thing to get started. We are confident that he is capable of finishing in the top 10 and are looking forward to starting the new season.
Hans Corvers, KEMEA Yamaha, team owner: We have made the decision to start next year with two young talents and I am very happy about that. As a Belgian team, it is great that Damon is joining for the image of the team and its sponsors. I have been following Damon for several years now and he has made a good impression several times. With the help of Yamaha Motor Europe we can offer him the best engines. The team will provide him with all the necessary physical and mental guidance. Together with Benoit, I think we can provide some surprises next year!
