Tixier and Cairoli win Matterley Basin qualifiers
On the beautiful circuit in Matterley Basin, Jordi Tixier and Antonio Cairoli won the qualifying races on Saturday. Tixier won authoritatively in the MX2 class ahead of home rider Jake Nicholls and fast starter Butron. Behind the top 3 there was a nice duel for fourth place. At one point the riders rode from fourth place to tenth place wheel to wheel. It was Febvre who crossed the line in fourth ahead of Anstie, Coldenhoff and Clermont. Kevin Fors finished eighteenth.
In the MX1 class, Antonio Cairoli quickly took off after a super start. He tried to open a gap, but Jeremy van Horebeek was caught in his wheel. Van Horebeek was able to follow Cairoli at a close distance for a long time, but was never able to really threaten the Italian. Clement Desalle, Kevin Strijbos and Ken de Dycker joined him in the top 5 and once again created a Belgian-tinged top 5. Joël Roelants did not get further than 15th place and Marc de Reuver finished 16th. Ghunter Ghysels also managed to qualify for this GP. As an amateur who can qualify for this GP within 110%, he is certain of participating in a few GPs in 2014. However, in this qualifying race, Ghysels quickly had to leave with broken glasses.
