Update: Formula 1 star Kimi Räikkönen on Everts and Friends
Op Sunday, July 21, 2013 – our National Holiday – the 8th edition of the 'Everts & Friends Charity Race' will take place on the Horensbergdam circuit in Genk, a unique motocross and cyclocross event for charity.
Special guest in Genk is Kimi Räikkönen, former Formula 1 world champion (2007) and currently third in the F1 World Cup standings. The fact that Räikkönen, who almost won the German Grand Prix last weekend, is coming to 'Everts & Friends' makes Stefan Everts beam with pride: “It will be a unique opportunity for the spectators to meet Kimi in person. Moreover, the Finn – on a dirt bike – will participate in our Cyclo MX Race and form a team with a Belgian cyclo-cross rider. He will also join us at our signature drawing table. This is truly unique and a first for our country.” In preparation for 'Everts & Friends', Räikkönen, who owns the Ice One Racing MX Team, trained with our ten-time world champion in Finland this week.
'Everts & Friends' will also be a hit in the motocross field. Next to the world champions Antonio Cairolli en Jeffrey herlings – even exceptional – almost the entire Belgian MX1 top is present: Ken De Dycker, Kevin Strijbos, Jeremy Van Horebeek en Joel Roelants† And also Johan Boonen, Mike Verstraeten, Nick Triest en Danny Theybers are present, besides of course Stefan Everts self.
The foreign side is looking forward to, among other things, Gautier Paulin, Jordi Tixier, Glen Coldenhoff, Dean Ferris, Xavier Boog, Rui Goncalves, Petar Petrov, Eric Sorby, Maria Franke, Antti Pyrhönen,...
In the unique 'Cyclo MX Race', where a top motocross rider and cyclo-cross rider form a team and each ride two relay laps on their own (motor) bike, we look forward to, among other things: Niels Albert, Bart Wellens, Rob Peeters, Jan Denuwelaere en Dieter Vanthourenhout. Co-initiator Sven Nys en Kevin Pauwels unfortunately have to miss the mountain bike championship.
As with previous editions, the competition program is particularly well filled with series for 'Mini's' (50cc), 'Junior Stars' (65cc), 'Future stars' (85cc), 'GP Stars' (MX1/MX2/WMX), 'Fun Bikes' (mopeds) and 'Golden Heroes' (vintage cars). Plus the unique motocross-cyclocross relay series, in which a top rider from motocross and cyclocross is alternately sent onto the circuit.
The eye-catcher of the 'Fun Bikes' will be, in addition to Everts, Cairoli and Herlings, five-time world champion and ten-time Belgian cyclo-cross champion Roland Liboton. The cyclocross legend will compete for the 'Creativity Award', a trophy for the most original and hilarious 'Fun Biker', which is presented by Praga Khan frontman and uber-creative Maurice Angels.
Liam Evert, the son of Stefan Everts, starts in the new 'Junior Stars' class.
There will also be plenty to do next to the course. The riders' quarters and team trucks are arranged very clearly and there is a covered area expo with (famous) classic dirt bikes, children's entertainment (bouncy castle, obstacle course, trampolines, make-up, clowns, mini-quads, etc.), paint ball and afterwards a real supporters' party starts in the large party tent. There will also be an autograph session with the famous athletes during the break.
For the final winner in the 'Future Stars' category there is the Stefan Everts challenge trophy, a stone-carved replica of the last air-cooled engine block, complete with kick starter and spark plug head, that 'The Legend' rode.
As with previous editions, the proceeds from the 'Everts & Friends Charity Race' will go entirely to charities selected by Stefan Everts that mainly focus on children and young people: 'A Heart for Limburg' (King Baudouin Foundation, with 'Come on!' en G-Team Real FC Berg-Neeroeteren), Ter Heide (counselling center for persons with severe or multiple intellectual disabilities), MediClowns (hospital clowns), BKO-BLO Oosterlo (free nursery and primary school for special education), Bed net (which connects long-term and chronically ill children to their own school and classroom via the internet), The market (open campus for youth welfare) and 't Weyerke (nursing home for permanent care of road traffic victims).
To bring in extra money original 'Everts & Friends' t-shirts and caps sold (via, among others, www.evertsandfriends.be and at the most important BMB competitions).
Also become exclusive VIP packages offered. A VIP sponsorship package (5 VIP invitations + 5 banners along the circuit) for companies costs 1.000 euros. More info at www.evertsandfriends.be
Fans who like to make a weekend of it can spend the night in the exclusive Carbon Hotel in the center of Genk. Special 'Everts & Friends' packages via www.evertsandfriends.be
EXPLANATION OF THE COMPETITIONS
MINIS
Guided practice laps on a shortened circuit for the very youngest.
JUNIOR STARS
Two series for 6 to 11 year olds on board a 65cc engine (large and small wheels).
FUTURE STARS VS. GP STARS
Two series in which a number of GP toppers, who start from the second row, compete against the young 'Future Stars', all mandatory on board an 85cc engine.
FUN BIKES
Two series in which absolutely everyone – including some World Cup toppers – can participate with a Camino, scooter, moped, etc. (maximum 75cc and automatic). The 'Fun Bikes' take a 'Le Mans' start twice (after the start signal, the participants walk to their Camino, scooter, moped, etc., switch it on and start).
AMERICANO OR AMERICAN RACE
Elimination race for the 'GP Stars' where one lap is completed each time and the last riders are eliminated. A total of five starts are planned. Until eventually two or three finalists remain. These will then compete in the super final over two laps.
GOLDEN HEROES
Two classic series of 12 minutes and one round in which the 'Golden Heroes' compete against each other on their vintage motocross bikes.
CYCLO MX RACE
One series in which a 'GP Star', after drawing lots, forms a team with a top cyclo-cross rider. They alternately ride two laps with their own dirt bike and one lap with their own bicycle (so each athlete remains on board their own (motor) bicycle). Or six rounds in total. Switching between teammates is done by tapping each other in the starting zone.
REVERSE RACE
The series result of the 'Americano' determines the starting order of this series, albeit in reverse order! The rider who was the first to drop out in the 'American race' (the last classified) may start first individually. One second later the penultimate of the 'Americano' takes off, etc... A pilot takes off every second. The winner of the 'American race' is the last to enter the course. And so it starts at the very back of an exciting catch-up race. Wondering how much ground he can still make up and whether he can win the 'Reverse Race'?
WRONG WAY PIT STOP RACE
A test of strength between the 'GP Stars' where the course is driven in the opposite direction. In addition, the GP toppers are obliged to make a pit stop where they have to replace the rear wheel of their motorcycle themselves. The moment of the pit stop is chosen by the race director and is unknown in advance.
